Overview
Notta is a local-first iOS app developed by Ruska Apps for notes, reading, AI chat, and private daily reflection. Notta does not require an account and does not operate a server that stores your notes, ebooks, diary entries, or chat history.
Information stored on your device
Notta stores the following locally on your iPhone or iPad:
- Notes, titles, groups, timestamps, pin state, and local metadata.
- Imported ebooks and reading progress, including EPUB, MOBI, AZW, AZW3, PDF, TXT, and Markdown files.
- Chat sessions, tool results, daily Notta diary entries, and knowledge graph notes generated inside the app.
- Attachments that you import or create, such as images, audio, video, documents, and cached generated images.
- App preferences, including appearance, language, reading settings, and AI configuration.
AI settings and Keychain
Notta uses a bring-your-own-key model. If you enable AI, you enter a provider URL, model name, and API key. The API key and related credential settings are stored on device, with secrets saved in the Apple Keychain where supported by the app. Notta does not send your API key to Ruska Apps.
AI requests
When you ask Notta to use AI, the app sends the selected note text, prompt, chat context, book excerpts, or tool context directly from your device to the AI provider you configured. These requests are not routed through Ruska Apps servers. Your provider's privacy policy, retention rules, and billing terms apply to that provider's handling of the request.
Voice input and local transcription
Notta may request microphone access when you use voice input. In Notta iOS 1.0, speech recognition is designed to run locally after the optional offline model is downloaded to the device. Audio is used for transcription within the app and is not uploaded to Ruska Apps servers.
Files, photos, and imports
Notta may request access to files, photos, or the system share sheet only when you choose to import, attach, save, or open content. Imported content is stored locally for app features such as reading, note attachments, and local playback.
Network use
Notta may use the network in these cases:
- AI requests to the provider URL you configure.
- Downloading optional local model files or media files when you choose to use those features.
- Resolving or opening links that you paste, import, or tap.
- Standard Apple App Store services for app distribution and updates.
Core note-taking, reading existing local files, and viewing existing diary entries do not require a Ruska Apps account or server.
No tracking, ads, or analytics
Notta does not use third-party advertising SDKs, cross-app tracking, or analytics SDKs to collect personal data. Notta does not sell your content or personal data.
iCloud sync
Notta iOS 1.0 does not expose iCloud or CloudKit sync. Your data remains local unless you explicitly export, share, back up, or send selected content to your configured AI provider. Future sync features, if released, will be covered by an updated policy.
Children's privacy
Notta is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as Notta's features change. When we post changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page.
